About the Show

Louis Theroux: Heroin Town - Tuesday January 14 America’s love affair with prescription painkillers has led to widespread dependency on opiates. But following a crackdown on their over-prescription, the pills are increasingly expensive and scarce on the black market. Vast numbers of Americans have now turned to the cheaper and stronger opiate: heroin. In Huntington, West Virginia, Louis sees first-hand the devastating results of this heroin epidemic. He follows the frontline emergency services responding to multiple overdose call-outs on a daily basis, and spends time with a community of users caught in the vice-like grip of drug misuse as they struggle to maintain their everyday lives.

Louis Theroux: Murder In Milwaukee - Tuesday January 21 Louis arrives in Milwaukee at a time of heightened tension between the police and the African American community. With spiraling gun crime and homicide rates, this Midwestern city encapsulates America’s complex and troubled relationships with guns – as well as the increasing disharmony between African American communities and the police. He follows the Homicide division as they investigate one of the city’s many killings and meets families and local social activists who have lost loved ones to these nightly acts of violence. Hearing from both sides of the debate, Louis uncovers hope in a desperate city.

Louis Theroux: Trafficking Sex - Tuesday January 28 Houston is the fourth largest city in the US and the number one hub for human trafficking in North America. The US Department of Justice estimates that at least one in five of all the country’s victims are trafficked through the city – and most will be forced to work in the sex industry. Louis explores the often complex dynamic between prostitute and pimp as he tries to understand what stops these women breaking free. He also embeds with law enforcement and meets Vice Division officers tasked with persuading the working women to speak out against their pimps.
