Everyone from fishermen, ferries, sailors, channel swimmers, and freighters carrying the UK’s imports and exports, regularly cross each other’s wakes. The job of keeping these busy and treacherous waters safe is a never ending task. A multi-agency team that includes the Coastguard, the UK’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the police and the port authorities are on duty 24/7 to ensure that no harm comes to those sailing across the UK’s most important border.
Channel Patrol follows these teams as they come to the aid of grounded yachts, carry out emergency medical rescues and save stranded marine animals. We also meet some of the hundreds of swimmers who choose to brave the elements - and enormous passing tankers - as they attempt to swim the channel to France – all in aid of worthy causes.
New Zealand audiences have access to three BBC TV channels: BBC Knowledge, UKTV and BBC World News.
